Natural fibres and distinctive finishes are dominant in Baya collections, often with hand-dyed and hand-woven elements, and with a focus on creating pieces that are as functional and long-lasting as they are beautiful. The brand is inspired by the Baya Weaver bird, which constructs intricate hanging nests; there’s a clear connection to natural materials, intricate woven craft, and the concept of homemaking.

Through their partnership with GoodWeave, Baya ensure that their rugs come from a transparent and ethical supply chain. GoodWeave is an international nonprofit that works to end child labour and protect workers’ rights. A percentage of the cost of each floor rug is donated by Furtex for GoodWeave's social programs in India, Nepal or Afghanistan.

Many Baya designs are inspired by nature; the Uluru rug and Seraphine cushion (both pictured below) are stunning examples. The sandstone rock formations of Uluru National Park were the starting point for the Uluru design; as the design evolved, different shades were added to mirror geological strata. The inspiration for the Seraphine design is a little closer to home. Baya designer Hannah created this hand-painted, impressionist design after being inspired by moody cloud formations enveloping the Waitakere ranges.
