Meet the designer working on Ngā Whare Pārara project, four stunning townhouses built in line with the Superhome movement.
Nextdore is currently working on the interior design of the Ngā Whare Pārara project, four stunning townhouses built in line with the Superhome movement. This project showcases carbon-negative design, innovative architectural solutions, and the potential of sustainable, healthy, and energy-efficient living. Join us as we follow this project over the next few months. We’ll share design updates, hear from Superhome founder and Ngā Whare Pārara architect Bob Burnett, and explore innovative interior products that blend style, functionality, and environmental responsibility.
In this blog we introduce the project’s interior designer and one of Nextdore’s Directors, Chris Attwood, and his passion for the Superhome movement.

The Superhome Movement, founded in 2015, is a collective of industry professionals dedicated to raising the bar for New Zealand's housing standards. Architects, builders and designers who follow this movement are committed to promoting sustainable practices that benefit both people and the planet. Chris’s passion for sustainability makes him the perfect interior designer for the Superhome townhouse project. He first fell in love with sustainable home design while travelling through France, and has since built his own Superhome in Canterbury.

Chris’s Superhome exemplifies meticulous design, with every element thoughtfully chosen for its sustainability and performance. The home, which was featured in a recent Superhome tour, has been designed to sit harmoniously as part of the natural landscape. The home’s double-walled construction creates an unbroken thermal envelope, with two layers of wool insulation and an Intello Wrap Air Barrier. The home also includes a German-designed heat exchange ventilation system that retains heat while allowing the home to ‘breathe’.

Several of the products used in Chris’s home will be included in the Superhome townhouses, including Marmoleum from the Forbo Group. Marmoleum is a linoleum product, but it’s a long way from the dated ‘lino’ of our childhoods. This hard-wearing, beautiful alternative to PVC is CO2 neutral, with a 150-year pedigree. Marmoleum is made with 97% natural materials, and the materials used are rapidly renewable: jute, linseed oil, wood flour, and - in the stunning Cocoa range - crushed cocoa shells.
